Wir hatten die Aufgabe 1 (describe the various types of Catholicism that emerge in the story)auch schon im Unterricht behandelt und haben folgendes herausgefunden:
1. Francoise:
-open-minded
-tolerant
-emancipated
(as she doesn't see a problem in talking to clerical students
and going out on her own, etc.)
-independent and inhibited
-the fact that another gender exists is something normal to her. She doesn't have a problem with undressing in front of men.
2. Little fat man:
-represents the conservative, traditional Irish society, which has strict rules as far as religion is concerned
-narrow-minded(engstirnig) as he only accepts his ideas of man and woman being together
3. Husband:
-represents the superstitious and mystical side of religion
-Sex is generally something sinful, but in a marriage it is something normal, so that for him Francoise isn't an occasion of sin anymore
4. Clerical students:
-are religious, but it's normal for them to have contact to woman
-aren't narrow-minded
-are a new generation that is more modern, curious and interested in things
-take things easily and don't see a problem in their conact to Francoise

wie versprochen unsere Ergebnisse (:
Das meiste hat jaegy ja schon reingestellt.
Also ich schreib mal noch dazu, wie wir die einzelnen Formen von Catholicism
benannt haben.
1) Describe the various types of Catholicism that emerge in the story
1. strict (conservative) Catholicism
- people (staring at her)
- small fat man
- clerical students (professional)
2. passiv Catholicism
- husband (superstitious)
3. modern-liberal Catholicism
- Francoise
2) analyse the author´s attitude to Catholicism
-the author criticizes the strict Catholicism
- agrees with Francoise opinion/attitude
(haben wir damit begründet, dass man einen limited third-person-narrator hat. Das heißt ja, dass der Erzähler die Gedanken usw. der Protagonistin kennt und eher subjektiv ist.)
Ich hoffe das hilft dir noch weiter
