- she drives to the beach to swim there (spring->autumn)
- she loves reading books on the beach
- she is an open-faced girl, chubby
- grew up in France with her brothers
- she "teaches" the students about life (of students) in France, about Catholic priests there, about life and her ideas about it - and she enjoys it
- she asks her husband many questions but is (rather) an independent girl
- meets people at the beach (small fat man, clerical students, english couple, man with the goggles)
- she loves sitting on the beach in her bathing costume - it reminds her of her childhood in France
- she likes to feel the (cold) water, the sun, the wind
- feels "like an animal in a cage" when she is watched at the beach
- wants to live in Ireland in the same way she lived in France, but the events of the summer make her understand that Ireland is not France, and that she has to change her life(-style)
-> has to give up part of what she loves or even of her personality, if she wants to avoid trouble (if she doesn't want to be "an occasion of sin")
- she realizes that her husband's way of thinking is very Irish as well (prudish, against sexuality)

also meine richtige Liste mit der Charakterbescheibung finde ich gerade nicht aber ich such mir mal ein paar Punkte aus meiner Charakterisation raus:

1. open minded
2. independent young woman
3. married an Irish man
4. bright grey eyes; stocky, firm lips; chubby
5. positive look in her life
6. sometimes she's going thoughful (when the old man talks a second time with her)

7.self-confident and doesn't care of the opinion of the others (at the beginning of the story)

das alles habe ich in meiner Charakterisierung letztendlich verwendet, hatte aber zu Beginn noch mehr aufgeschrieben.
